Hue, in the middle part of Vietnam, was the capital of the Nguyen dynasty in the 1800’s and also was very close the the DMZ that separated North and South Vietnam during the war. We went on a couple guided tours – basically us on the back of motorbikes to many of the different sites in the area. The first day was a DMZ tour of war sites.
We visited a North Vietnamese cemetery for fallen soldiers or Viet Cong.
Next, we checked out a museum that featured a whole tunnel town where the people lived to avoid bombardments during the war.
Hue was also the capital of Vietnam during the Nguyen dynasty in the 1800’s until the end of World War II in 1945. The center of town has the forbidden city, where only the kings and family could be.
Dotted throughout the area is several tomb complexes of the kings and other historical buildings.
We got to dress up in Nguyen dynasty era clothing.
We continued to cruise around and check out more sites including a really impressive tomb complex.
We loaded the motorbikes onto a water taxi and found a neat temple.
During our stay we also had some snake wine and pho.
