Sepilok is home to a renowned Orangutan sanctuary as the rainforests of Malaysia (Borneo) and Indonesia (Sumatra) are the only places in the world where these great apes are found naturally.
“Orangutan” is a Malay word meaning “man of the forest”.
This sanctuary is in the middle of the jungle and has wooden walkways and platforms to help people get good views of the Orangutans.
Some workers come out in the morning and afternoon with a huge basket of fruit. Several Orangutans (about 6 or 7) appear from the jungle to eat.
One of the Orangutans had a very cute baby too
There was also a museum that a lot of informative displays about the flora and fauna of the jungles of Borneo.
There was also another extensive jungle walk on elevated platforms
There was some serious bird photographers around too
Flowers and pretty orchids were everywhere
And finally, a random pic of the local bus ride back to Paganakan. Jon Bon Jovi truly transcends language and culture.
