We cruised around on motorbikes again and went to the Malatapay market which is well known for its spit fired roasted pig (sometimes called Lechon in Spanish).
The pork was fantastic – nice and juicy with a crisp skin on it. We continued on along with the pretty scenery.
We stumbled upon a beautiful resort called Pura Vida. One benefit of having unplanned portions of a trip is the ability to improvise when you come across a pleasant surprise – whether it be a festival, city or hotel that catches your attention. We booked a room for here at Pura Vida upon seeing the grounds and beach.
With luscious grounds, a hot tub and pool, a pretty beach and a well run dive shop, this place was a real gem.
We hung out on the beach, swam in the pool and snorkeled off shore and had a wonderful day. We were very excited to come back in a few days to stay longer. Pura Vida resort is actually in a town called Dauin, which is only a 15 minute ride from Dumaguete.
Any city in the Philippines worth its salt has a proper cock fighting ring, and Dumaguete is no exception. There was a huge crowd outside this one.
It was dark when we drove back to Dumaguete. It’s hard to believe its almost January, and here I am, wearing sandals, shorts and a t-shirt on a motorbike at night and completely comfortable. It’s almost Christmas, and lights are everywhere in town.
On our last night staying at Harold’s Mansion in Dumaguete, we had some amazing chili crabs at Lab-as restaurant. Tomorrow we head to Apo Island for 3 days.
