After a relaxing first day on the island, we went to our go-to method of exploring in the Philippines: the motorbike.
There I am in board shorts and sandals on my 150cc bike. This was a manual bike – you have to shift gears with a pedal where you rest your feet. Shannon likes to have her own bike, but on this day she opted for a scooter.
We enjoyed a nice breakfast on the beach of our hotel, the Coral Cay Resort. Afterwards, we asked the staff about renting motorbikes and they came back a couple minutes later with them. Sometimes, hotels and guesthouses have motorbikes they rent out, but usually they have a network of locals who are willing to lend out their personal bikes for some extra cash.
Our first stop on our day trip was an old Spanish church.
The Philippines is pretty hot and tropical and it doesn’t take much activity to want to get in some water to cool down. We made our way to some nice waterfalls called Cambugahay.
We hung out a little and rode off to Salagdoong beach, which is a public beach where a lot of Filipino families were.
We went back to Coral Cay and relaxed on the beach for sunset before having some dinner at the restaurant. The next day, we rented motorbikes again and cruised around looking for a nice beach.
There’s Shannon relaxing on the beach in front of our bungalow. It took a little bit of getting lost, but we finally found a very pretty beach called Paliton.
We set up our beach towels and did some snorkeling.
The fish in the pic above is called a sweetlips. This fish’s vivid pattern is so pretty.
There were some other neat creatures as well.
