New Year’s day is an official holiday in Korea, so we used this day off to head to Gamcheon Culture Village. This is an artsy enclave of Busan with colorfully painted houses and art installations throughout the narrow alleys and streets.
Here is a good article from CNN about this village
To get here, you take subway line 1 to Toseong 토성 station. After this you can take a cab or take a local bus to the village.
At the visitor center you can purchase a map (2,000 won or $2) with a section to get a stamp at every installation you visit. If you collect all stamps, you can redeem the map for some kind of prize.
Here’s a placard explaining how the current president, Park Geun-hye 박근헤, visited here.
It was a cold, blustery January day
There were lots of art studios and cozy coffee shops around too.
