We decided on a very hot, humid August day to hike up to Seokbulsa 석불사, a temple or hermitage on Geumjeongsan 금정산 (Mt. Geumjeong).
We started at Oncheongjang subway station and walked to Geumgang park. There are lots of activities in this park but we went straight to the cable car.
Usually the views are nicer, but it was a hazy, overcast day.
At the top, we started walking on the trails but there are a lot of forks with not many signs for direction. We eventually came across an old fortress gate.
We got lost a lot, but Koreans are always willing to help out with directions – just make sure you know basic Korean!
Getting a little sweaty on the trail
Near the temple, there is a fairly steep climb that left us huffing, puffing and covered in sweat. Tourists who do this hike debate back and forth online about how strenuous or easy it is. I will say, being a Floridian who is used to heat and humidity and, a runner who exercises frequently, the last 15 minutes were pretty difficult.
