Slow Boat to Luang Prabang, Laos

Vang Vieng, Laos

We left Thailand and crossed the border into Laos on a very small boat that took us to a pier with immigration on it.

Next, we transferred to a bigger boat for our two day boat trip down the Mekong River.

The first night we stayed in a small town called Pak Bang. There weren’t enough rooms for all the people and some of our friends had to sleep in the dining area. Before boarding the boat, a tout went through and asked if anyone wanted to pre-book a room for $10. I was a little skeptical but just decided to pony up. For this reason, we had a room when the boat arrived in Pak Bang.

The next day we traveled another eight hours on the boat to arrive in Luang Prabang.

Having spent so much time on a boat with little to do but enjoy the scenery, we made several friends who we would hang out with for the next couple weeks.

Luang Prabang

Luang Prabang is a relaxed tourist town with gorgeous temples and cultural attractions. Motor vehicles are not permitted in the town center, so we rented bicycles to check out the temples.

Luang Prabang is a very scenic town. We went to a lookout point and a market after the temples.
