Rajasthan Road Trip to Bundi बूँदी and Pushkar पुष्कर

After a night of beer pong, about 6 of us piled into auto rickshaws (tuk-tuks) to go to the main bus station in Jaipur. Several of us hadn’t slept and promptly passed out on the ride. In addition to hanging out at camp and around Jaipur, smaller groups break off for weekend trips to neighboring cities in Rajasthan.

Palace

We were heading to Bundi बूँदी, and above is the view of the palace as our bus pulled into town. These small and relaxed Rajasthani towns make for a nice respite from the state capital, Jaipur.

Auto Rickshaw

Another tuk-tuk ride and we arrived at one of the sleepy alleys with a particularly alluring cafe.

Bundi Shake

Important decisions were made and we drank our very special green teas.

Bundi Shake

We arranged for a ride out to a stunning waterfall about a 90 minute drive outside Bundi. I sat in the front seat and practiced Hindi with the driver and everyone got out for a mid-drive stretch.

Bundi बूँदी

Rajasthan is a desert state which made this waterfall that much more impressive

In the pic above, you can see on the ledge to the right several men standing to give you a reference of the size. We climbed down a lot of stairs and past a temple to the waterfall before going for a nice refreshing swim.

We hung out for several hours before heading back to Bundi.

Pushkar पुष्कर

After dinner and some drinks, we boarded a short night bus for Pushkar पुष्कर, which is pretty famous for it’s annual camel fair ऊंट मेला.

Pushkar पुष्कर

Pushkar is built around a holy lake that is dotted with many temples and bathing ghats along the shore.

We found a place to stay, called the Pink Floyd Hostel, and relaxed on the rooftop.

Pushkar पुष्कर

We wandered around the town and checked out some of the temples and hiked up for views all around

Of course there was camels around too

We had an awesome weekend exploring these chilled out Rajastani towns and after a nice rooftop dinner, we took a bus back to Jaipur for work, study and volunteering on Monday morning.
